From Spyro the Dragon which introduced the amazing series to the world, to the most recent Spyro Reignited Trilogy, all the games in the Spyro series are listed below in chronological order, so that you know how to play them.
With games for PlayStation (PS1 to PS4), Nintendo (GBA, Gamecube, NDS, Wii, Switch), Xbox (360, One), and PC (most recently), there’s plenty of Spyro fun to be had. Let’s jump right in and check out all the games in the series in order!

Spyro Games in Order
Created by: Insomniac Games, later on developed by many other companies, including Digital Eclipse, Tantalus Media and Toys for Bob.
1. Spyro the Dragon
PS1 original release: September 1998.
Plot: Join Spyro, a bold purple dragon, on a 3D adventure to save his friends from Gnasty Gnorc, who’s trapped them in crystal!
With his dragonfly buddy Sparx at his side, Spyro leaps, glides, and breathes fire through six vibrant worlds, gathering gems and dragon eggs.
With simple controls and playful enemies, Spyro the Dragon is a lively journey for players of any age and the perfect entry to the series.

2. Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! (aka Gateway to Glimmer in Europe/Australia)
PS1 release: November, 1999.
Plot: Spyro 2: Riptpo’s rage is the sequel to the charming, family-friendly Spyro the Dragon adventure game. Spyro is the same lovable dragon, but his challenges are now larger and more complex.
Help him fly and head-butt his way through incredible new 3D fantasy worlds with more puzzle elements and bonus levels, also with many new moves: jump, swim, and fly, as well as minigames.

3. Spyro: Year of the Dragon
PS1 release: 2000.
Plot: Jump down the rabbit hole to recover all the eggs stolen from Dragon World by the evil sorceress and her henchmen “Rhynocs” in the third game in the Spyro series!
The cartoonish look, the goofy sounds, and the scavenger-hunt gameplay will be familiar to anyone who has adventured with Spyro before.
New to the series is the ability to play as Sheila the kangaroo, Sergeant Byrd the flying penguin, Bentley the Yeti, and Agent 9 the space monkey.
Control such vehicles as tanks, submarines, and speedboats. There are over 30 levels in which to recover 150 eggs. Also, there are several mini-games to compliment the standard gameplay, including boxing and skateboarding.

4. Spyro: Season of Ice
Game Boy Advance release: November 2001.
Plot: Spyro is moving over to the GBA, with a new developer (Digital Eclipse). In the game, the friendly dragon receives a message that a careless Rhynoc wizard has captured Zoe and frozen all the fairies throughout the Fairy Realms.
Spyro has to interrupt his vacation and team up with his friends Hunter and Sparx to save Zoe and free as many of the frozen fairies before time runs out.

5. Spyro: Season of Flame
GBA release: September 2002.
Plot: Strangely titled Spyro 2: Season of Flame, despite being the 5th game in the series, the new GBA release tells the story of the Fireflies in the Dragon Realms that have been captured
Now Spyro must set off, along with Agent 9 and Sheila the Kangaroo, on an all-new journey to a fiery island, where he will rescue the Fireflies and restore flame to the Dragon Realms before the time runs out.

6. Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
PS2/GameCube release: November 2002.
Plot: Enter the Dragonfly sees Ripto return with a plan to steal the dragonflies of the Dragon Realms. To combat his foes, Spyro’s existing set of abilities have been enhanced with new features such as electric, ice, and bubble breath.
Equipped with the newly acquired skills, amazing new vehicles, and help from new and old friends, Spyro must find a way to return the dragonflies and restore order to the Dragon Realm in fun new levels, each with unique weather environments.

7. Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs (aka Spyro Adventure in Europe/Australia)
GameBoy Advance release: October 2003.
Plot: Spyro, Sparx and the Professor return to the GBA in this new iteration, as they must drive off the elusive Ripto and his droves of Rhynocs before they permanently take over the dragon realm.
Features:
- 14 new isometric lands introducing you to the home realms of all your favorite characters.
- RPG elements, including quests, mini-quests, and a new inventory system.

8. Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy (aka Spyro Fusion in Europe/Australia)
And also known as Spyro Advance Wakuwaku Tomodachi Daisakusen in Japan.
GameBoy Advance release: June 2004.
Spyro and Crash are teaming up for the first time to take on their greatest foes – Dr. Neo Cortex and Ripto – in an action-packed side-scrolling adventure! This new game in the series combines Spyro’s fire-breathing skills with Crash’s signature moves, as players jump, dodge, and attack through levels filled with monsters and huge, classic bosses.
With over 25 exciting mini-games, Spyro and Crash is packed with variety. Go solo or link up with friends for multiplayer fun, trying modes like Party Games, Wager Games, and Card Trading.

9. Spyro: A Hero’s Tail
Released on: November 2004 (PS2, Xbox, GameCube).
Plot: Spyro: A Hero’s Tail takes you back to the world of that tough little dragon, for all-new platforming adventure!
This time, Spyro must save the Dragon Realms from an evil dragon who has planted life-sapping dark gems all over the Dragon Realms. Seek out and destroy all of the Dark Gems to return the lands back to normal.
Journey through morphing lands as Spyro, switching between five characters with powerful breath attacks, new moves, and gadgets like the Dragonball and Aqualung.

IMPORTANT: Two mobile games were released after A Hero’s Tail, developed on Java by Kaolink. These games were Spyro: Ripto Quest (2004) and a Spyro the Dragon remake (2005), both mobile Java games that were short-lived and are no longer available. They are not included in this main list, but I thought I should mention them.
10. Spyro: Shadow Legacy
Nintendo DS release: October 2005.
Plot: Spyro Shadow Legacy introduces role-playing elements to the Dragon Realms, offering Spyro fans an “RPG light” experience with all new gameplay features.
By fighting and defeating creatures in the game, players will earn experience points that improve Spyro’s strength and abilities.
This RPG element will allow players to use their experience to build Spyro’s new magical powers and martial arts combat abilities as the game progresses.

11. The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
Release date: October 2006 (GBA, Nintendo DS, PS2, Xbox, GameCube)
Plot: The Legend of Spyro A New Beginning explores the true origins of Spyro as you embark on a dangerous, combat-driven quest that will bring you face to face with the Dark Master’s ultimate creation, Cynder.
Experience the true power of the purple dragon as you unleash devastating fury attacks, upgradeable breaths & ground to aerial melee combos in a frenzied battle with hordes of menacing enemies and bone-chilling bosses. It’s an epic and cinematic gameplay experience.

12. The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night
Released: October 2007 (PS2, Wii, Nintendo DS, GBA)
Plot: When darkness descends, a true hero must rise! As the Night of Eternal Darkness approaches, Spyro is haunted by recurring visions of an impending evil.
He must master powerful new abilities on an epic quest to find the Well of Souls and prevent Gaul, the Ape King, from resurrecting the Dark Master.
New features include “Dragon Time” (bending time mechanic popular at that time), 4 upgradeable breath attacks that have been refreshed with new elemental melee moves, new enemies and bosses, and more.

13. The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon
Released: October 2008 (PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS)
Plot: In this third chapter of the epic Legend of Spyro trilogy, Spyro must fulfill his destiny and face the Dark Master.
Three long years have passed since Spyro and Cynder were trapped in the crystal, since then Malefor has unleashed his evil onto the world.
As evil spreads over the world, Spyro and Cynder must discover new abilities and unlock their true powers to defeat Malefor and stop him from destroying the world

14. Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Xbox One/PS4 release: November 2018 | Nintendo Switch/PC release date: September 2019.
