Review
Haunted Hotel 14: Personal Nightmare is an excellent new chapter in the series. Playing on the themes of fears and phobias to ramp up the creepiness. As you explore the Freedom Hotel, trying to find your long-lost mother and sister.
From the scary labyrinth that you must escape just by torchlight and a very rudimentary map. Whilst unknown things scuttle about you. And footsteps echo in the long corridors! To the weird woods, that’ll have you navigating spooky trees and three-eyed owls. Using a very cool paw-print compass! Plus there’s a headless figure, thwarting your attempts to find your family, at every turn.
There’s plenty of game play in this Haunted Hotel game. With more than the usual HOP games (compared to recent releases). Plus a good variety of puzzles and mini-games. All covering a range of difficulty. And using items in-keeping with the setting. Though some of the puzzles are a little too easy. There is enough challenging game play to keep things interesting.
As with previous Haunted Hotel game titles, the visuals, voice overs, character animation and story are well done.
This added to the gloomy color scheme. Atmospheric ambient sounds. Sudden spooky things and creatures coming at you from nowhere! And overall, some decent game play. All come together to make this a nicely scary mystery game!
