Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy Review

Nancy Drew Warnings at Waverly Academy Review

Nancy Drew Warnings at Waverly Academy game from Her Interactive is a classic adventure games and one of my favorite Nancy Drew PC games.

There are loads of mystery adventure games in this series – for the full list, see my posts included below. But until then, let’s learn more about today’s game in my review!

Game Summary

This is the 21st installment in the series. Have in mind that it was released back in 2010 – so this is probably one of the longest running adventure series in the world! Good, because all the games are great too.

Nancy Drew Games List in Order 21. Warnings at Waverly Academy
Nancy Drew Game #21. Warnings at Waverly Academy

In this episode, the mystery is set in a posh girls boarding school. Nancy must go undercover in this mystery game to discover who is behind the threatening notes and recent spate of ‘accidents’.

The notes are from someone calling themselves ‘the Black Cat’ and seem to be targeting the dorms of the valedictorian candidates.

You (aka Nancy) must find out if this is a plot to scare away the competition and stop the culprit before the Black Cat goes too far!

How to Play the game

In this Nancy Drew game, you go undercover, as a student at the Waverly Academy.

To find out information, you’ll have to mix with the other girls, many of them being a bit odd or unfriendly to newcomers. It won’t be too easy!

You’ll also explore the different rooms, including the dorms and other parts of the school and its grounds after curfew.

So with your explorations and talking to the girls you can collect lots of different clues from photos, phone numbers, and other objects that you’ll need to help you solve the case.

Your phone will become your most important tool, not only for taking pictures and collecting phone numbers but also for receiving important text messages.

As you go through the rooms collecting clues you’ll also plenty of tasks to complete to get more information from the students.

As an example, one of the first puzzles will be to help one student recreate a DNA model before she can give you the info you need. You also get to play mini arcade games such as air hockey or darts.

The story is full of other cool puzzles that you need to crack to get more information that will help you move on to the next part of your investigation.

Also, as part of the persona, you have assumed you are in charge of the snack shop which you will have to tend to every day.

There are 2 game modes – junior detective and senior detective. With the junior detective mode you will be able to get loads more hints to help you solve the puzzles.

Warnings at Waverly Academy – Review Summary

  • Nice graphics.
  • The use of your phone as a way to collect clues is a nice touch.
  • Plenty of interesting and challenging puzzles.
  • You have to go undercover and get in with the different social cliques – And there are plenty of characters to deal with!
  • 2 difficulty levels – Junior or Senior Detective.

On the negative side, there are a couple of things to note: a. this is a large file download game (by 2010 standards), and b. you can’t skip the dialog.

However, these are just minor negatives. This is one of my favorite Nancy Drew games, especially because of the variety of puzzles and I really like the private school setting, this small location ‘locked room’ setting is perfect for a mystery game like this.
