There’s a variety of genres in this top 14 best mobiles games 2014 list.
Including puzzle, platform, action, arcade, brain-teaser. As well as role-playing (RPG), first person shooter (FPS), real-time strategy (RTS). Plus tower defense and adventure.

1. 80 Days

A beautiful and engaging rendition of the popular adventure story by Jules Verne.

Perfect if you love match 3, brain teasers, puzzles or maths games.
From Sirvo LLC, this is also a great game for when you need a quick time filler.
Though, you will end up playing it for way longer than that!

7. Traps n Gemstones

A cool platform game where you explore a massive maze inside an Egyptian pyramid.
Find the missing relics in this adventure game.
You’ll need to collect items on your journey.
As you will need all the tools you can find to help you in this quest.
And there’ll be many challenging obstacles to tackle too!

8. Bean Dreams

A new mobile game out December 2014.
A jumping, running, bouncing bean arcade game!
A well designed, colourful and fun rendition of the old style platform games.
Perfectly brought to life with the touchscreen of the iPhone and iPad.

9. Papers, Please

With a controversial update this year.
This is one of the most popular thrillers for mobile games this year.
A dark dystopian game about border control!
If you think it sounds boring, then it’s probably not your cup of tea.
But if you are into dark slow-burning point and click adventure PC games, you might like this one.

10. VVVVVV

By Terry Cavanagh, the creator of Super Hexagon.
Addictive and nostalgic version of the old platform game on PC for mobiles.
With brilliant use of graphics and sounds like the old school platform games.

11. Block Fortress

This is a brilliant mix of first person shooter, tower defense and block-building strategy game.
Unique in its gameplay and does well in encompassing a wide range of genres.
Without detracting from the fun and challenge of the game.
If you like Minecraft, FPS and tower defense games then you’ll enjoy this game.
A highly enjoyable game new for Android this year.

12. Tales from the Borderlands

From Telltale Games. My top pick for the best big adventure game of 2014.

13. Mikey Boots

Third in the ‘Mikey’ series from BeaverTap Games, LLC.
Currently only on iPad. Though the previous instalments, Mikey Shorts and Hooks are on other platforms.
A brilliant fun and colourful physics platformer.
In this instalment, Mikey has a new sidekick.
Plus some cool boots to navigate him through the levels.
Levels, that increase in difficulty very quickly!
Which is why this is in my best mobile games 2014 list.

14. TwoDots

From Playdots, Inc. and sequel to the very popular Dots.
In this top puzzle game, you must “connect one dot to another, sink anchors, make a line, create bombs, fight fire, and much more in this fun free puzzle game”
A simple premise, but with hours of addictive gameplay!
TwoDots is a free game with optional in-app purchases.
This is my top pick for the best free game of 2014.
